It would have been difficult for us to not release a record by a band called VI!VI!VI! whose name can be read as 6!6!6!

VI!VI!VI have been founded in Lille in 2011. They label themselves as "Dead Avant-Garde" or "Regressive Rock ". "Krautrock", "Noise" and "Experimental" can also be used if you are looking for more common genre names.

They started as a trio consisting of MAXIME MANAC'H (also member of FAUST's latest line-up), Sylvain Delanoé (current collaborator of PUNISH YOURSELF) and Guillaume Dubreu (ex-LA SOCIÉTÉ DES TIMIDES À LA PARADE DES OISEAUX and CHAUSSE-TRAPPE).

After a first LP released in 2014 on Tandori Records (which has also co-released VITAS GUERULAÏTIS, BLIND THORNS, FUZZ ORCHESTRA, CONVULSIF or ENOB with us), the band evolved as a quintet with the hiring of CIRO MARTIN, a drummer coming from the jazz scene, and XAVIER POITTEVIN, a bass player also active in OUI MAIS NON.

The band play an experimental rock descending into a noisy maelstrom made of various sonic layers that match the members' moods and feelings. VI!VI!VI! create an orchestral and spatial sound. They like to use unusual instruments, such as hurdy-gurdy, santur, jackhammer, grinders and miscellaneous industrial tools. The music develops into textures and kaleidoscopic frequencies. This (de)construction is rich of abrupt melodies with volatile properties. The listener walks through a coherent labyrinth between psychedelic rock, concrete and industrial music.

On stage, VI!VI!VI! integrate both experimental video and industrial performance. They have already shared the stage with artists such as CHILD ABUSE, DYLAN CARLSON, TERMINAL CHEESECAKE, DIE!DIE!DIE! or COSMIC DEAD...

The second LP, soberly entitled II, was recorded at the end of 2016. It's the first time it is released on vinyl.

Since that recording, Xavier Poittevin has handed over the bass to MAXIME DE WAEGENAERE, who is used to be in the dark-ambient scene. The band have also joined forces with singer-saxophonist GEOFF LEIGH (HENRY COW, STEVEN WILSON, Faust, MIKE OLDFIELD...).

A third album is already on its way but it has yet to be released.

VI!VI!VI a démarré comme un trio formé autour de MAXIME MANAC’H (également membre de la dernière mouture de FAUST), SYLVAIN DELANOÉ (collaborateur actuel de PUNISH YOURSELF) et GUILLAUME DUBREU (ex-LA SOCIÉTÉ DES TIMIDES À LA PARADE DES OISEAUX et CHAUSSE-TRAPPE).

Après un premier LP paru en 2014 chez les amis de TANDORI RECORDS (avec qui on a sorti pas mal de trucs comme VITAS GUERULAÏTIS, BLIND THORNS, FUZZ ORCHESTRA, CONVULSIF ou encore ENOB), le trio devient quintet avec l’enrôlement de CIRO MARTIN, batteur issu de la scène jazz, et XAVIER POITTEVIN, bassiste également actif dans Oui Mais Non.

Le groupe pratique un rock expérimental évoluant au gré des humeurs en un maelström bruitiste défricheur de strates sonores. Le groupe évolue sur des nuances de textures et de fréquences kaléidoscopiques. Cette (dé)construction sonore est riche en mélodies abruptes aux propriétés volatiles. VI!VI!VI! prône un son orchestral et spatialisé. Ses membres utilisent souvent des instruments sortant de l’ordinaire (vielle à roue, santour, marteau-piqueur, meuleuses, divers outils industriels,...). L’auditeur se promène dans un labyrinthe cohérent entre le rock psyché et la musique concrète et industrielle.

Sur scène, le groupe intègre autant la vidéo expérimentale que la performance sidérurgique. Il a déjà partagé la scène avec des artistes comme CHILD ABUSE, DYLAN CARLSON, TERMINAL CHESSECAKE, DIE!DIE!DIE!, COSMIC DEAD...

Le deuxième LP, intitulé sobrement II, a été enregistré fin 2016. Le voici donc enfin immortalisé sur vinyle.

Depuis cet enregistrement, Xavier Poittevin a cédé sa place à MAXIME DE WAEGENAERE, bassiste habitué de la scène dark-ambient et le groupe s’est adjoint les services du chanteur-saxophoniste GEOFF LEIGH (HENRY COW, STEVEN WILSON, FAUST, MIKE OLDFIELD...).

Un troisième album est d’ores et déjà enregistré. On vous donne rendez-vous dans quelques années pour que vous ayez l’objet entre vos mains.
